History of Station 2

The beginnings of Station 2 actually started with the formation of a totally new volunteer company on March 16, 1880, when the "Ada Hook and Ladder Company Number 1 was formed. A spliced-together type of hook and ladder apparatus was ordered to equip the new company. Both the Boise Engine Company 1 and the Ada Hook and Ladder Co. 1 got along well. Eventually, the hook and ladder company began performing drills, which also became regular training events. When the Boise Engine Company 1 dissolved in 1888, Ada Hook and Ladder Co. 1 took over operations of the Silsby engine.

In 1889, the Relief Engine Company No. 1 was formed and resumed control of the Silsby Engine. When a chemical engine was added later that year, the city had 3 fire companies. Each company dressed in different colors - red, white, and blue - to make parades more colorful.

In 1895, the city realized that the residences that were springing up on the north side would eventually need fire protection. A wooden station house was built at the corner of Eighth Stree and Fort Street. Later the same year, the entire structure was moved to Resseguie and Tenth Streets. This area was known as the "Logan Tract". The new company was titled "Resseguie Engine Company Number 2". The name was later changed to Rescue Engine Co. 2 in July, 1906. The station also acquired the old chemical engine 1 as an apparatus in addition to a hose cart.  The station housed two firefighters. In July, 1907, lieutenants were added to the department, so the staffing became 3 firefighters at the station..

In 1912, a new two-story station was built at Sixteenth and Resseguie Streets to replace the station between Tenth and Eleventh. In this same year, though, a station was built at Sixteenth and Front Street and titled "Engine Company 2". The new station was renamed Station 3.  For the next twelve years, there would be no official station 2.  The station sat on a triangle lot and was closed in 1952.  It is now a private residence, but the appearance of the bay door areas can still be made out when passing by the structure.

The Boise volunteer era had died out in 1902, so this became the official Boise Station 2. In 1920, the station was abandoned. The equipment was sent to reserve status at the Central Fire Station. The station at Sixteenth and Resseguie Street, though, remained in operation.

In 1924, the station 3, still at Sixteenth and Resseguie, was renamed station 2.  Station 3 was built at Williams and Boise Avenue.

In 1950, Station 5 was opened at the Sixteenth and Front Street location. A new station was built at Ridenbaugh Street and Seventeenth Street to replace the old station 2 and was officially opened in 1952. In 1979, the station was closed due to budget cuts and reopened in 1981.. It remains standing today as the Ada County Paramedics Medic 57 quarters.

In the 1996, a new station was built at the present address - 3351 Cartwright Road, which is identical to Station 10 in building construction and appearance..

RESERVE TRUCK 2:  1990 Simon-LTI Tillered Aerial

110 ft. tillered aerial is now serving as a reserve truck.  The vent in the front was cut a few years ago to allow more ventilation due to overheating of the engine.  The truck suffered an engine compartment fire in 2003, but has since been repaired and returned to service.
